Most Haunted At Standon Hall Staffordshire

Yvette Fielding and the Most Haunted conducted mammoth two-night investigation of Standon Hall in Staffordshire, one of the most unsettling places the team have ever staked out. The horrors they uncovered at the location are spread out over three episodes, the first of which airs on Friday June 9th at 10pm on REALLY.

Last Time

The huge grade II listed building has already given the team more scares than any other location they've investigated, the show's sound recordist Darren Hutchinson said in the last episode, "there is something in here with us, I am more convinced in here than I have been in many other locations in a long time." This week's episode kicked off with a similar observation from Karl Beattie, "I don't wanna go on my own, this place freaks me out more than anywhere else I've been, for me I keep thinking of Hill House."

Standon Hall was built as a private home in 1910, then later used as a hospital is now abandoned, there was so much activity at the house that the Most Haunted team's two-night investigation has been spread out over three episodes. Already in the first episode the team Yvette and Karl got spooked in the basement, while the rest of the team experienced sinister knocks and bangs in an old bedroom.

They show ended with Yvette ordering her ghost hunting team a warning not to split up or go anywhere in the house alone after a knife was seemingly throw across the kitchen in the darkness. With Yvette's warning still echoing in the maze of abandoned corridors, the fearless team continues their vigil.

The Story Continues...

Episode nine picked up where last week's episode left off and the gang headed upstairs following a shadowy movement they'd spotted on the staircase, Karl heard a clattering sound coming from downstairs and wanted to go and check it out.

It didn't take long for Karl to suggest splitting up, skeptic Glen Hunt chipped in "you've got a short memory haven't you," as Karl had clearly forgotten his wife's warning about not going anywhere alone. Yvette eventually agreed reluctantly but added, "please don't go to the kitchen again." She sent Karl off with the show resident demonologist Fred Batt, who hadn't helped Yvette's nerves by reminding her that, "it's OK to be brave but when a knife's coming towards you it's a bit different, you can't do anything about that. If something wants to kill you, it'll kill you."

But as soon as Yvette left the room, Karl turned to Fred and said "right shall we go to the kitchen then?" and moments later they were back in the room where they'd already witnessed a knives being thrown around.
Most Haunted Knives On The Wall

Karl put the most recently thrown knife back on the wall, completing a set of eight knives adorning a rack (picture A), but seconds later in Karl's footage it's clear to see that one of the knives had already vanished from the rack (picture B). Less than a minute later, while stood in the doorway to the kitchen at the other side of the room, Karl is hit in the head with a knife which lands at his feet, it's the missing knife from the rack (picture C).

Karl understandably seems shocked as the handle of the sharp kitchen implement struck his head having seemingly been thrown across the room at him, "something's hit me in the head, has it cut me?"

Karl may have thought the kitchen was scary but what was waiting for him upstairs was much worse. Yvette was furious that Karl and Fred had gone back down to the kitchen, "why did you go down there when I specifically said not to go down there?"

Fred tried to explain, "we had to." Yvette was having none of it, "no wait a minute, who's in charge of this investigation?" Karl answered, "you are." Yvette continued with her dressing down, "right, so when I say don't go down in the kitchen where knives are being thrown around, please don't go down in there, please show me a bit of respect for god's sake."

Karl tried to answer back was silenced by Yvette, who continued with her angry rant, "shhh, I don't want to hear about it, just do as I ask you to do. You're messing around with bloody knives, it's ridiculous. You should know better Fred. I'm really $&#*ed off with the pair of you because I asked you not to do it and you did it."

Yvette walked off leaving Karl and Fred behind, who instantly started smirking like school boys. Desperate to have that last word on camera, Karl cheekily said "Fred made me do it."

The argument was the last of the action in the manor house that night but the next morning the team continued their investigation of Standon Hall, this time in the abandoned outbuildings.
Standon Hall Outbuildings

After sunrise the team were preparing to investigate the derelict areas of the estate. It's said that the abandoned outbuildings have a strange atmosphere and that visitors have seen the ghosts of doctors and nurses. There are reports of doors slamming and crying in the dead of night.

While Karl was roaming the corridors with a camera getting footage ahead of the investigation, it seemed something was trying to get his attention. While alone in the building a wheelchair rolled out in front of Karl and was caught on camera. Karl instantly ran along the corridor and checked all the adjoining rooms to ensure the building was in fact empty. Unable to find a cause for the moving wheelchair, Karl said "this place is scaring me to death."
Standon Hall Wheelchair Moves On Its Own

After the wheelchair incident thing just got weirder, as Karl panned his camera across an empty room it was clear to see a cupboard was open, as the cupboard door went out of the shot it could be heard slamming, the camera was instantly moved back and the door was closed. The slamming happened so quickly that no one could have been near it as Karl's camera was back on the door a split second after the bang.

Later that day the team were preparing to head back into the buildings to begin their nighttime vigil but Karl, Yvette and the team ended up running inside earlier than expected after seeing a shadowy figure in one of the windows. The team ran inside only to find an empty building.

At this point the team split in to two groups. Karl and Fred headed back into the main manor house to check out the attic, while Yvette and the others remains in the outbuildings. The investigation continues in next week's tenth and final episode of this series of Most Haunted.

This series of Most Haunted has been a great watch, a couple of the episodes have been slower than other but on the whole each episode has had plenty of scares and at least one big talking point. Of all the places the team have visited this series, Standon Hall is by far the creepiest, so although it's sad that the series comes to an end next week, hopefully it'll go out on a high with the final instalment of this already thrilling investigation in Staffordshire.
Friday is now #Frightday as the new series comes to Really from April 14th. Watch on Freeview (17), Sky (155) and Virgin Media (129), or watch previous episodes of Most Haunted on demand on the UKTV Player.
