Holly And Voice Over IP

November 18, 2015 2:02 PM

That title which is an attempt at a rhyme and a play of the holly and the ivy can only mean one thing... two things. Firstly, this week I've been making use of VOIP technologies and secondly, Christmas is fast approaching.

This week's I've been quite enjoying my new telephone system I've set up. Previously I would get calls from freelance clients and potential freelance clients on my mobile while in work, making it awkward to answer or not possible to answer at all thus risking losing business.

So, I've bought a Skype number, it's a standard geographical landline number with a London pre-fix and I've set up voice mail on this number so if I get a call while at work the caller can either leave a message or will email me as suggested in the personal greeting. Either way, I'm less likely to miss an opportunity now and so far it seems to be working well.

I also bought a cordless Skype phone that sits on my desk, a flashing light on the phone alerts me to voicemails as soon as I get home.

It's now fast approaching Christmas and as always at this time of year, the pressure to eat crap and go out socially increases. I've just passed the 1 stone in weight loss mark so I'm in no hurry to undo all of the work but there's no point in punishing myself, I want to live.

I went out for a meal with friends last night, I haven't seen them in six months so I wanted to make the most of it so I enjoyed a three course meal with them even though I didn't have a spare treat day.

The way I see it is, as long as I'm loosing weight it doesn't matter how long it takes to reach my target. In fact, it's almost a case of the longer it takes the better as having a target and motivation for longer will give me more time to be trained into thinking healthy first.

The other good thing about the impending festivities is time off work. Now obviously at the moment I'm working on my own projects 7-9am and then going to work but for two weeks over Christmas I won't be going to work and I'll want to enjoy my holiday... but it is a good time to clear some of my todo list.

So I'm thinking of working on my own projects from 8-10am over Christmas so it doesn't interfere with my day but still gives me that set chunk of time each day to define tasks and get them done.

I really need to start shooting two Christmas videos this weekend and I'm toying with the idea of doing a daily, advent calendar style video throughout December. They'll probably be shorter videos using old and raw footage giving more information about the made up ingredients in my videos.
