Steven Spielberg's upcoming film, previously referred to as 'The Dish', may now have the new title, 'Disclosure'. While Universal Pictures has yet to confirm the name, the change has sparked speculation about what direction the film might take.
Spielberg reportedly began production on his latest feature this month, a film centred on UFOs. The screenplay has been penned by David Koepp, known for his work on 'Jurassic Park', 'War Of The Worlds', and 'Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull'. The story itself is based on an original idea from Spielberg, making this his first self-conceived
UFO project since 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind' in 1977.
The film is said to boast an impressive cast, with Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson all set to star. Cinematography duties fall to Spielberg's longtime collaborator Janusz Kamiński, whose visual style has shaped the look of many of the director's modern classics. Universal Pictures has already locked in a theatrical release date of May 15, 2026.
Filming is expected to commence on February 28 in New Jersey, with the entire production shrouded in secrecy. Despite the lack of confirmed plot details, speculation is running wild.
For months, the project has been unofficially referred to as 'The Dish' after an IMAX presentation for investors included a slide listing upcoming Hollywood releases. Among them was a film titled 'The Dish', which was quickly linked to Spielberg's UFO movie. However, more recent reports suggest that the title may have changed - or that 'The Dish' was never the actual name at all.
The latest rumour is that the film is now titled 'Disclosure', which feels timely, given the ongoing discussions about government transparency and UFO-related disclosures in the media, particularly in the US with congressional hearings and whistleblower testimonies. However, without official confirmation from Universal or Spielberg, it remains speculation for now.
Another major question mark is whether John Williams, the legendary composer behind Spielberg's most iconic films, will return to score 'Disclosure'. Williams, now in his 90s, has been stepping back from film scoring, though he has continued to collaborate with Spielberg in recent years. If he does return, it could mark yet another legendary soundtrack in his illustrious career.
Given Spielberg's history with the UFO and alien genre, fans are wondering what direction he'll take this time. Will 'Disclosure' lean into the wonder and optimism of 'Close Encounters'? Or will it take a more heartfelt and emotional approach like 'E.T.'? It may even adopt a more dramatic, even unsettling tone as seen in 'War Of The Worlds?' With David Koepp involved, the script is bound to feature Spielberg's signature mix of human drama and blockbuster spectacle.
Whatever the case, Spielberg returning to the world of UFOs is enough to generate immense excitement. While details remain under wraps, one thing is clear, if anyone can capture the magic and mystery of extraterrestrial encounters, it's Steven Spielberg.
