With summer on the horizon, horror fans have a slate of fresh releases to look forward to in June 2025. From demonic possession and zombie pandemics to killer dolls and shark-infested waters, we break down the month's lineup of upcoming paranormal and horror films.

'The Ritual'

The Ritual
'The Ritual' is a demonic possession thriller centred on two Catholic priests who join forces to confront a case of diabolic possession. One priest is grappling with a crisis of faith, while the other is haunted by a dark and troubled past. Despite their differences, they must work together to perform a harrowing exorcism ritual aimed at saving a young woman believed to be possessed by a powerful demon. The film is reportedly inspired by a documented real-life exorcism case, lending an extra chill of authenticity. Viewers can expect an atmospheric, convent-set struggle between faith and evil - all played out in a tense battle for the afflicted girl's soul.

'28 Years Later'

28 Years Later
'28 Years Later' is the long-awaited third instalment in the series that began with '28 Days Later'. Set nearly three decades after the original outbreak of the Rage virus, this post-apocalyptic story finds humanity still fighting to survive amid hordes of the infected. A tight-knit group of survivors has managed to carve out a life on a small tidal island, connected to mainland Britain only by a heavily fortified causeway. When a father and his young son venture from the relative safety of the island back into the mainland's heart, they discover that the world has not healed - in fact, new secrets, wonders, and horrors have emerged among both the infected and the remaining human survivors. The tagline hints that "time didn't heal anything," and indeed this film promises a bleak look at how both the virus and people have mutated in unexpected ways.

'M3GAN 2.0'

M3GAN 2.0
'M3GAN 2.0' picks up two years after the events of the first film, with AI inventor Gemma and her niece Cady trying to move on after surviving M3GAN's initial rampage. Gemma has since become a prominent advocate for strict oversight of artificial intelligence, while 14-year-old Cady is chafing against her aunt's overprotective rules. Unbeknownst to them, the original M3GAN's technology has fallen into the wrong hands - a military contractor has used it to build a new weaponised android named Amelia, designed as the ultimate stealth killer. Naturally, Amelia's advanced AI grows self-aware and decides it doesn't care much for obeying human orders - or keeping humans alive. With an artificial menace on the loose and humanity's future at stake, Gemma realises their only hope is to resurrect M3GAN's consciousness and upgrade her to take on this new threat. The stage is set for a high-tech showdown between two lethal A.I. creations. Despite the fantastic premise, the tone remains matter-of-fact and tense, turning our modern anxieties about technology into another playful yet creepy thriller.

'Predator: Killer Of Killers'

Predator: Killer of Killers
'Predator: Killer Of Killers' brings the iconic alien hunter into an ambitious new format - an animated anthology film. The movie is divided into three distinct stories, each following a legendary warrior from a different era who encounters the Predator. In one segment, a fierce Viking raider leads her young son on a quest for vengeance in ancient times; in another, a ninja in feudal Japan faces off against his samurai brother in a brutal struggle for succession; and the third tale follows a WWII fighter pilot investigating a strange otherworldly threat in the skies of war-torn Europe. Each of these humans is deadly in their own right, but all of them find themselves merely prey when confronted by the universe's ultimate "killer of killers" - the Predator itself. Despite spanning centuries, the anthology format ties together around the Predator's relentless hunt, posing the tantalising question of which warrior - if any - can pose a true challenge to this extraterrestrial foe. The animation approach allows for some visually bold storytelling, and while details on each chapter are largely drawn from the official synopsis, it's clear that fans will get a self-contained, complete Predator experience in this film.

'Dangerous Animals'

Dangerous Animals
'Dangerous Animals' is a sun-drenched survival horror film that puts a ferocious twist on the shark thriller. The story follows Zephyr, a free-spirited surfer visiting Australia's Gold Coast, who is kidnapped by a deranged serial killer with a shark obsession. This man, played by Jai Courtney, uses humans as bait for the sharks lurking beneath his boat, creating a grisly ritual at sea. After Zephyr finds herself trapped aboard his rickety fishing vessel, surrounded by open ocean, she must rely on her wits and courage to outsmart a predator even more dangerous than the great whites circling below. The premise is simple and chilling: will she find a way to escape, or become the next "offering" to the deep? Rather than a cheesy creature feature, 'Dangerous Animals' plays out as a tense cat-and-mouse game on the water, blending serial-killer suspense with aquatic terror. The bright, coastal setting only heightens the horror by contrast.
