A new documentary aiming to reignite interest in Britain's most famous UFO case will premiere this summer at one of the UK's biggest independent film festivals. 'The Rendlesham UFO - The British Roswell' will make its debut at the Raindance Film Festival in London on June 24 and 25.
The film explores the well-known UFO sighting that took place in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, in December 1980. Often described as "the British Roswell," the incident involved several United States Air Force personnel stationed at the nearby RAF Woodbridge base, who reported encountering a strange craft in the woods. According to their accounts, the object was triangular in shape, resting on legs, and emitted multi-coloured flashing lights. Some even claimed it had symbols on its surface that resembled hieroglyphs.

Over the decades, the Rendlesham incident has become a key part of UFO folklore in the UK, prompting a wide range of theories. Skeptics have pointed out that the Orfordness Lighthouse, located around six miles from the site, could explain the lights seen by the airmen. Others suggest it might have been a prank orchestrated by the British Special Air Service (SAS) in retaliation for an earlier incident in which some of their men were allegedly captured and interrogated during a training exercise. In this version of events, the SAS is said to have rigged up coloured flares, remote-controlled kites, and black helium balloons to fool the Americans. There's even a theory that the lights were nothing more than local police vehicles in the area.
The new documentary, directed by Mark Christopher Lee and Roderick Godman, revisits these claims with fresh eyes. It promises exclusive interviews, in-depth analysis, and even never-before-seen footage of more recent sightings in the same area. Mark believes there are new whistleblowers ready to speak out, and he's using the film to call on the British government to take the issue of UFOs more seriously, especially in terms of national security.
He also argues that the UK is well behind the United States when it comes to investigating and disclosing information on unidentified aerial phenomena. "The time for silence is over," he says, adding that he personally receives hundreds of UFO videos each week from concerned members of the public.
Whether you're a long-time believer, a casual observer, or someone who's never heard of Rendlesham before, the documentary aims to reopen a case that still sparks debate more than 40 years later. With fresh testimony and a renewed call for government transparency, 'The Rendlesham UFO - The British Roswell' hopes to show that the story is far from over.
