Charlene Lowe Kemp Offers Higgypop Advice On Connecting With The Spirits Of The Ancient Ram Inn

Paranormal writer and Higgypop.com founder, Steve Higgins, spend the entire night alone at The Ancient Ram Inn in Wotton-Under-Edge, a building famous for its alleged haunted activity, including demonic entities and violent poltergeist activity.

The nightlong supernatural stakeout is the subject of Steve's paranormal documentary, 'My Ghost Hunting Movie', which was released on May 28 and features an interview with paranormal investigator, Charlene Lowe Kemp.

The former Gloucestershire inn has a grim history, it started life under the ownership of the local parish and was used to house slaves working on the construction of St. Mary's Church. Since then the ownership of the inn has changed hands many times and guests have claimed on many occasions to have seen previous owners sat among the patrons.

Ahead of his night alone in the inn, Steve spoke to Charlene, an experienced ghost hunter who runs the popular Facebook group Paranormal Hauntings. Charlene shared her thoughts and advice on how to approach the investigation and make a connection with any spirits that may be present.

Charlene emphasised the importance of being respectful and empathetic when entering a space believed to be haunted. She advised, "When you're starting off anything, say your name, say why you're there. Explain why you're there and say that you mean them no harm, is always a good thing to start off with." Showing empathy and connecting with the stories of the spirits can help build trust and persuade them to interact.

"What we need to remember is spirits were people. You have to build a relationship with them; they have to trust you," Charlene added. She encouraged Steve to open up and show compassion and empathy to help establish a connection. She also pointed out the importance of not being too quick to dismiss potential paranormal activity. Charlene suggested that Steve ask spirits to repeat any sounds or actions that he experiences, rather than assuming it is simply a natural occurrence.

In an attempt to create a different experience, Steve plans to incorporate DJing into his night at the Ram Inn. Charlene explained, "After a good night in a pub, if a pub's normally haunted, the energy from the DJ equipment and the music and the atmosphere is normally what triggers the activity straight after they've locked up." She also recommended bringing trigger items like herbs, witchy items, and religious objects to the investigation to appeal to the various spirits believed to reside at the location, such as a witch and a monk.

Some of the most commonly reported activity includes highly localised cold spots, temperature drops and unexplained icy blasts of air. Some of the other activity reported in the former inn includes light anomalies seen with the naked eye and caught on camera, doors slamming on their own, and the sound of unexplained footsteps. The sound of furniture sliding around and mysterious knocking is also frequently heard.

Steve's ultimate goal is to experience some of this paranormal activity for himself to understand what other ghost hunters encounter in haunted places. Charlene suggested that sometimes turning off the cameras can encourage spirits to communicate. "It's just some truth for ourselves that you are here with us," she explained. Charlene also mentioned the idea of conducting some vigils without any cameras at all, to create a more genuine connection with the spirits.

In addition to following Charlene's advice, Steve is aware that he should make his intentions clear to the spirits. Charlene mentioned, "I also think it's important as well to mention to them that you're not there for any fame, fortune, or gain from them." This honesty could help foster trust and openness with the spirits.
