Distrust Of Paranormal TV Shows Is Sending Viewers To YouTube

Where do you get your ghost hunting fix? It seems true fans of the paranormal are turning their back on mainstream shows like 'Ghost Adventures' in search of what they deem to be more credible ghost hunting content on YouTube.

In fact, only 18% of those that responded to a survey we recently published said they typically find the most credible paranormal shows on traditional television. Of the more than 1,000 responses, 33% said they head to YouTube for credible paranormal content.

Streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime also ranked slightly higher for credibility than television with 20% saying these platforms were their go-to source of spooky entertainment, while 11% said that they typically find the most credible paranormal shows on dedicated paranormal streaming services, such as PARAFlixx paranormal+ or the Ghost Planet Network.

As for what makes a paranormal show credible, the overwhelming majority of viewers feel that paranormal shows exaggerate or fabricate evidence, this according to 98% of survey responses. Overall 59% of the 1,047 people who responded to the survey said they thought that paranormal shows exaggerate or fabricate evidence 'often', while 39% said this happened 'occasionally', leaving just 2% that said this never happens.

The survey also revealed how viewers think these sorts of shows can improve, with 74% saying they prefer more 'balance' in a paranormal reality show. However 14% said they prefer shows that lean more toward 'skepticism', while 12% preferred a 'believing' slant.
