This article is more than seven years old and was last updated in March 2019.
Here's a list of the newest conspiracy theories to emerge over the last year as well as the theories which have started to gain popularity over the past twelve months.
1. UFO Expert Max Spiers Was Murdered By The Government
The 39-year-old, UFO expert from Canterbury, was found dead on a friend's sofa in Warsaw in July 2016 after spewing black liquid.
Max was in Poland to deliver a talk at a conference on conspiracy theories relating to celebrities and politicians and was due to expose a "global black magic ring."
According to Polish authorities, Max died from natural causes despite there being no post-mortem examination being carried out but his mum and hundreds of others believe he was killed because of his research into UFOs and government cover-ups.
His body was later repatriated and a post-mortem was carried out at Margate QEQM Hospital, Kent, this failed to find a cause of death but his family claim he was poisoned for knowing too much. His mum said, "I think Max had been digging in some dark places and I fear that somebody wanted him dead."
Max's computer was returned to his mum but his emails and documents had been deleted, so there's no way of knowing what her son was working on in his final days.
His ex-girlfriend Sarah Adams told The Sun that his death could have been part of a satanist ritual, which she claims Max told her about. She said, "he was terrified, he wanted to leave. He rang me secretly because they wouldn't let him talk to me and he said he was trying to get away from them. They were doing very dark black magic and satanic rituals to 'de-programme' him and get rid of demons. He said they had given him something that had put him in a coma for two days."
2. Jill Dando Was Murdered By Jimmy Saville's VIP Paedophile Ring
BBC television presenter, Jill Dando was murdered outside her South London flat in 1999, and despite an extensive investigation, her killer was never found but the murder has all the hallmarks of a professional hit.
In 2013 it was revealed that Jill Dando tried to expose the sickening BBC paedophile ring. DJs, stars and corporation staff were involved in organised abuse. Jill is said to have taken these claims to senior management in the mid-1990s but no investigation took place.
Most of the abuse within the ring took place at the sordid Elm Guest House, where vulnerable boys were trafficked from local care homes to be abused, allegedly frequented by the likes of evil-abuser Jimmy Saville and it may have been the Leeds DJ who was behind Jill's killing.
OK, so it wasn't actually Saville himself who killed Jill but there is a growing belief that she was murdered to stop her blowing the lid on the VIP paedophile ring.
Some have taken this conspiracy a step further and claim that Jill and Princess Diana knew each other and were sharing information about the child abuse and that Diana's death was no accident and she too was killed to keep Elm Guest House's secrets.
One victim of abuse at the Elm Guest House claims that Princess Diana saved his life after he approached her for help, so it seems she almost certainly knew what was going on there.
3. The Large Hadron Collider Is A Stargate For Awakening An Egyptian God
In a 17 mile long circular tunnel, 175 meters underground beneath the borders of France and Switzerland is the world's largest and most powerful particle collider. It's the largest single machine in the world and it aims to reproduce the conditions in the universe at the moment of the big bang.
It's one of mankind's greatest scientific achievements but not every one is convinced it's such a good thing. There's a growing number of people who believe that the LHC is in fact a stargate created to revive the Egyptian, Osiris.
Apparently an ancient device called Ta-Wer, which means "the Eldest Land" once existed. It created wormholes and was used by Osiris to "travel across the underworld." Paintings depict the device on the walls of Abydos Temple.
The painting shows a boat-like object that some believe represented the crossing between life and death. However the painting isn't a million miles away from a simplified diagram of a wormhole. Scientists believe that a wormhole can act as a shortcut between two remote points in the universe.
So assuming that the Ta-Wer machine was real, it's possible that scientists are trying to recreate it in Geneva as the amount of energy generated by the subatomic collisions in the collider could be powerful enough to rip a whole in space-time itself and spawn a wormhole... but to where?

4. Donald Trump's Russian Connections
Donald Trump is already proving to be one of the least popular US presidents of all time, but is he in fact the least eligible president ever too?
There's growing evidence that Trump was put into power by Russia under instruction from Vladimir Putin but how could Russia have pulled this off?
Russian agents allegedly conducted an elaborate hacking campaign designed to assist the Republican campaign, while sabotaging Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. The campaign aimed to sway public opinion.
The campaign supposedly involved hacking Democratic targets and publishing stolen emails via WikiLeaks. US intelligence services have already said they will investigate the Russian hacking claims and also aim to determine whether Trump was involved in the campaign.
Just last week Trump tweeted, "I don't know Putin, have no deals with Russia," seemingly destroying these rumours, but the truth is out there. In the clip below from a 2013 interview, Trump says "I do have a relationship [with Putin] and I can tell you that he's very interested in what we're doing here today [...] but yes, I do have a relationship with him."

Recently members of the Democratic party have called on the FBI to investigate Trump's relationship with Putin.
Last month a Russian spy linked to a leaked dossier on Trump was found dead in mysterious circumstances, the dossier contained unverified allegations against Trump, but is this all the Russian have on him?
Many believe that Russia has information on Trump which they are using to control him and some of Trump's actions might hint at that. In January it was widely reported that a "routine call" between Trump and the Russian president wasn't logged as the White House, contrary to their normal protocol, turned off the recording.
If Russia is found to be involved in the election of Trump, what this means for his presidency going forward is unclear.
5. Flat Earth
The flat Earth theory is nothing new, in fact before the 6th century everyone thought the world was flat but back then, they knew no better.
Unbelievably despite the fact that since the 6th century, mankind has circumnavigated the globe and even seen and photographed our own planet from space, some still believe the Earth is flat.
So, if this isn't a new theory, why's it in this list? Well, terrifyingly the Flat Earth Society started accepting new members in 2001 and has been growing in numbers ever since, regardless of the irrefutable evidence that the Earth is round.
How do these people believe that the Earth is flat when we've seen photos of it as a sphere from space? When we can see the sun skirt round the horizon near the poles yet dip from the sky near the equator? When we can see with the naked eye or own planet's shadow on the moon during a lunar eclipse? When you can see ships vanish over the horizon? Plus if we were on a flat disc how could it be night and day in different parts of the world, especially as flat earthers believe the sun is only 3,000 miles above us?
I can't answer these questions, it's just idiotic to ignore all of this easily observable evidence. In 2017, this shouldn't be believed by a single person on the planet.
6. Louis Tomlinson's Baby Is Fake
This is one of the stranger conspiracy theories to have sprung up in the last year and it centres around One Direction star, Louis Tomlinson.
Louis and his girlfriend Briana became the proud parents of a baby, Freddie at the beginning of 2016 but some 1D fans don't believe that the baby is actually real.
Fans believe the whole pregnancy, birth and photos of Freddie have been faked in order to distract the world from the truth... that Louis is actually in a secret relationship with bandmate, Harry Styles.
Briana posted a photo on Instagram of her with Freddie alongside the caption, "1/21/2016 Freddie Reign. Love of my life."
Louis tweeted the news on January 23rd, "I'm pleased to say my baby son was born yesterday. He is healthy and pretty amazing."
So Briana says the baby was born on the 21st, while Louis' tweet places the date as the 22nd. From this point on it gets more and more complicated with fans finding discrepancies in photos of Louis and his baby, some claiming the photos are staged, Photoshopped or feature a dummy.
Many say the baby's eyes are always closed and that his hands/feet are always in the same position.
7. Hillary Clinton Is Dead and Has Been Cloned
We've already learnt what Donald Trump might be hiding but there were also rumours circulating about his opponent during the 2016 election, that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was killed off in 1998 and has since been replaced by one of her many clones.
These claims started from rumours of Hilary's health issues, unconfirmed reports that she's suffering from everything from subcortical vascular dementia to Parkinson's.
The belief is that not just Hillary but the whole Clinton family were "eliminated" and cloned at Camp David. These soulless replicas are now able lie in public without the usual moral dilemma associated with people with soles.
Those behind the conspiracy claims believe there are a fleet of Clinton clones that can be grown to full maturity in less than three days. It's a bold claim considering there's never been a full clone of any human being, let alone one with the capability to make public appearances at just three-days-old.
A more worrying connotation of this claim is that Bill Clinton would have been serving as president in 1998 when his initial elimination and cloning was supposed to have taken place, yet there was no record of any kind of gap in his service or knowledge.
