2013 Christmas No. 1: Sam Bailey - 'Skyscraper'

X Factor winner, Sam Bailey thought off tough competition from Pharrell Williams and Pitbull but she made it to the top of the chart to claim the Christmas No. 1 for 2013.

Sam Bailey - 'Skyscraper'

In December 2013, Sam Bailey was crowned the winner of the tenth series of The X Factor and went on to release a cover version of 'Skyscraper' as her winner's single. The song, which was originally released by Demi Lovato two years previously, became the 2013 Christmas No. 1 single on the UK Singles Chart. 'Skyscraper' originally appeared on Demi's third studio album 'Unbroken' and was released as the lead single from the album. All proceeds from Sam's version of the single went to the Great Ormond Street Hospital and Together for Short Lives.


2013 Christmas Chart Contenders

It wasn't an easy ride to the No. 1 spot for Sam, she had to fight of competition from Pharrell Williams and Pitbull who'd both been riding high in the chart plus a whole host of song which were hoping to make it to the top of the chart.

Lily Allen - 'Somewhere Only We Know'

Lily Allen provided the soundtrack to John Lewis' 2013 Christmas advert, 'The Bear & The Hare'. The retail giant's festive ads are becoming a traditional part of Christmas, over the past few years the songs featured in the ads have ended up in the top 10. Ellie Goulding even scored a No. 1 with her cover of Elton John's 'Your Song' in 2010, and last year Garbielle Aplin's version 'The Power Of Love' made it to No. 2. So, Lily Allen stood a good chance of making it to No. 1 for Christmas.

AC/DC - 'Highway To Hell'

A Facebook campaign aims to get AC/DC's 1979 hit 'Highway To Hell' back in to the top ten for Christmas to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band. Despite four decades in the industry, the Aussie rockers have never had a top ten hit in the UK. 'Highway To Hell' is one of their best known hits but when it was first released over 30 years ago, it only charted at No. 40.

One Direction - 'Story Of My Life'

One Direction released a new single just in time for Christmas 2013. Harry, Niall, Liam, Louis and Zayn are seen looking back on their childhood in the video for 'Story Of My Life', performing in a huge room filled with pictures from their youth.

Susan Boyle - 'O Come, All Ye Faithful'

Britain's Got Talent star, Susan Boyle was hoping to score a Christmas hit with her song 'O Come, All Ye Faithful' featuring Elvis Presley.
