The Haunted Hunts: Cemeteries Of The Dead - 'Mill Street Barracks'

Danny Moss and 'The Haunted Hunts' team head to St Helens in the penultimate episode of their fifth season, entitled 'Cemeteries Of The Dead'. Danny, along with Rebecca Salisbury-Moss, Emma Dawe, Charlie Rutter, Roxanne Rutter, Alice Grindley and Nick Anderson, will spend the night investigating Mill Street Barracks, another haunted location with mysterious connections to on-site burials.

This paranormal hotspot is a building the team know well, having conducted many investigations there, but this investigation sees the team return for the first time in four years. Danny said at the start of the episode, "the things that we have witnessed in this location have baffled us for many many years."

Charlie added, "I think it's quite nice to come back and see if we can gain on the evidence we've had before."

The barracks are said to be home to plenty of paranormal activity, most notably the ghost of a former caretaker's dog, called Bruce. The building's largest room is the drill hall, where visitors report phantom footsteps, marching and disembodied voices. Tables and chairs move on their own and shouts echo through the empty building. In the cellar, many people have reported feeling a strong negative presence in the dark back rooms and the apparition of a woman known as Claire has been seen.

This location is of particular interest to the team in this series because during World War II, the cellar was used as a mortuary for soldiers and those killed in German bombing raids. Hundreds of bodies were stored here for weeks as they awaited burial.

Stood in the cellar, Danny said "right under our feet here is where numerous bodies are buried." He added, "just behind this wooden board here used to be a tunnel entrance leading to the nearby church." These links to burials are exactly what the team are looking for, as Danny explained, "when we talk about covering these locations with on-site burials, these cemeteries of the dead, this is one of those."

The team caught a curious moment on camera during their filming. What appears to be a streak of light is seen moving across the screen as if walking on the balcony above the building's drill hall. Danny does however say, "there are marks on the window and the light from outside is reflecting into the building," he adds, "we cannot claim this is a full-bodied apparition as there are other factors at play here, we are therefore leaving it up to viewers to make their own assessment of this."

As it fell dark outside, the team began their investigation. As always Nick and Alice had set up static, locked off cameras around the property and were monitoring these feeds from the hub.

Becki, Emma and Rox started by holding vigil in the old dormitories, which proved to be very quiet, but in the drill hall, Danny and Charlie heard several strange sounds which they likened to the sound of something moving in the darkness.

Later the team went to the building's recently discovered second cellar, an area that proved a little unsettling for one member of the team in particular. Danny, Charlie, Rox and Becki were sat in the dark subterranean space when they heard a huge bang coming from upstairs. At the same moment Charlie heard and felt a growl in his ear.

Two voices were also captured on a locked off camera during the night. Both of the voices were heard within the space of five minutes. Although a Spirit Box was running at the time to provide a source of white noise, Danny says that these voices did not come through the device and are an example of Direct Voice Phenomenon (DVP).

Danny summed up the investigation by saying, "what we had experienced, and also what we had seen since reviewing the footage, in our opinion is strong evidence that something is happening at Mill Street Barracks that is beyond modern science." He added, "we can't claim that everything is paranormal, but likewise, we can't debunk some of this captured phenomena."

The team's mission to uncover the mysteries of haunted burial sites continues at one final terrifying location. We'll be bringing you an episode guide for the sixth instalment of 'Cemeteries Of The Dead' later this week.
