To celebrate the 30th anniversary of 'Ghostwatch', one of the BBC's most controversial television shows of all time, the Halloween special is being released on Blu-Ray'.

In 1992, television viewers across the UK were terrified by what appeared to be a live broadcast from a haunted house. 'Ghostwatch', written by Stephen Volk and directed by Lesley Manning, has gone on to inspire a generation of filmmakers and ghost hunters.

The infamous supernatural mockumentary will be released on Blu-Ray on October 31 in the UK and October 25 in the US. The limited edition release is available to pre-order now.

The 30th anniversary edition includes a new documentary on the making of 'Ghostwatch', a new commentary track, limited edition packaging featuring newly commissioned artwork, a booklet with new writing on the film and more.

The release marks the first time 'Ghostwatch' has been available in HD on Blu-Ray. It has previously been released on DVD to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2002.
We all know that 'Ghostwatch' has a reputation for being one of the most controversial shows to ever air in the UK, but the British Film Institute has recently named it one of the BBC's most game-changing television shows of all time.

The BFI describe a "game changer" as a show that "revolutionised the broadcasting landscape by defining and developing entire genres." Explaining why they'd given the one-off Halloween special this status, they wrote, "its influence extending as far as horror cinema's 'found footage' subgenre. Volk's 'massive séance' is a perfect metaphor for the shared experience of television at its most powerful."

'Ghostwatch' saw Sarah Greene and Craig Charles embark on a unique investigation into supernatural activity in a haunted house in London, while veteran broadcaster Michael Parkinson tried to hold things together in the studio as poltergeist activity at the house escalated. The show ended with Sarah being pulled into a cupboard by the resident ghost, nicknamed "Pipes", and Parky wandered around the studio seemingly possessed as the transmission ended.

The limited edition release of 'Ghostwatch' will be available in the United Kingdom on October 31 and is available to pre-order now. American fans of the show can get hold of a copy from October 25.
