Paranormal Television Airing In 2019
Fans of 'Black Mirror' were treated to a new, but very different, interactive episode of the show over Christmas. Just days after the release of 'Bandersnatch' it has been revealed that a new series of the dark sci-fi show is set to return this year.
Scott Bryan, TV editor at Buzzfeed tweeted, "Netflix has told me that the fifth season of Black Mirror is still to come in 2019. Bandersnatch was not the fifth season, but a standalone interactive film, in case you were wondering."
Nothing more is known about the new series and of course, due to the nature of 'Black Mirror', we could be getting anything from mind-probing electronic implants, to killer robots or strange devices to enable the human consciousness to live on after death.
Netflix is about to dive head first into apocalyptic zombie drama. 'Black Summer' is due to be released on to the streaming platform early in 2019. The eight-part show, created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, is a prequel to Syfy's series, 'Z Nation'.
'Black Summer' stars American actress and model, Jaime King a mother separated from her daughter, she embarks on a harrowing journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.
'Jinn', a new six-part series, is set to premiere on Netflix this year and will be the streaming giant's first piece of original Arabic content. Written by Elan and Rajeev Dassani and directed by Mir-Jean Bou Chaaya, the show will follow a group of teenagers, whose lives are disrupted when a spiritual figure appears in front of them in the ancient city of Petra. They must try and stop Jinn from destroying the world.
The hit US ghost hunting series fronted by Zak Bagans returned to UK screens in 2018 with a new series, which aired over Halloween. However, viewers in the UK are still slightly behind the US, but a new series starts on UKTV's Really channel on March 22nd which will bring British viewers more up to date.
Meanwhile, in the US, the show will return from its season 17 mid-season break in February, airing on the Travel Channel.
Fans of 'Ghost Chasers' are hoping to see the return of Kay Nambiar, Ian Lawman, Paul Hobday and Chris Howley this year. The first series of the show aired on the Really channel back in 2017 and left viewers wanting more. Although a second series has not been confirmed, there is currently a petition knocking around Twitter which aims to convince the channel to sign the team up for a new run of episodes.
Haunting Of Hill House
Netflix's supernatural drama, 'Haunting Of Hill House', was the big runaway hit of the year with fans of the paranormal. The show only landed on Netflix in October, but many viewers felt that the story had been left open for a possible second season, and several cast members are keen for a comeback, although nothing has yet been confirmed by Netflix or the show's creators.
Help! My House Is Haunted
We're all hoping for a return of television's newest ghost hunting team in 2019. 'Help! My House Is Haunted' started on the Really channel in September of last year and could be set to return this year. The show follows Barri Ghai, Sandy Lakdar and Chris Fleming as they travel the UK using the latest technology to try to capture never before seen proof of the paranormal.
There's no word yet on a second series, but given the positive response the series received, it's likely to return at some point in the future. As there's not yet been word that a second series is in production, it probably won't return until later in the year, perhaps around Halloween.
Inside No. 9
Fans of the paranormal will have love Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton's Halloween special of their dark anthology show 'Inside No. 9'. The rollercoaster ride of twists and turns was based on the real-life stories of the hauntings at Manchester's Granada Studios.
The one-off special has most likely left fans wanting more, but the good news is that a fifth series of the show is due to air on BBC Two later this year. In October last year, Pemberton spoke about how they write the show, "we always like to be in the same room, which a lot of writing partners don't. We live very close to each other so we have a little office and go to the same places for our lunch and we spitball a lot of ideas for a long time."
Hot off the heels of the autumn series, which aired on the Really channel over Halloween, it has been confirmed that the long-running ghost hunting show hosted by Yvette Fielding is set to return on Friday 11th January, 2019. The new series will feature ten new episodes and an "As-Live" special filmed at the Eden Camp Museum in Malton, North Yorkshire.
Roswell, New Mexico
One for the UFO buffs. 'Roswell, New Mexico' is a new American television drama series, which debuts on The CW channel on January 15. The series is the second television adaptation of the 'Roswell High' book series by Melinda Metz.
The show will tell the story of the daughter of undocumented immigrants who returns to her hometown of Roswell, where she discovers her teenage crush is an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life.
Not much is known about the forthcoming third season of the Netflix series 'Stranger Things' other than the fact that it will be released on July 4th 2019.
We know that the drama will continue to take place in the fictitious town of Hawkins, Indiana, and that the series is set in the summer of 1985. We also already know that the third season will drop to eight episodes. This is down one episode on season two, but back to the original count for season one.
War Of The Worlds
There's no air date for BBC One's new sci-fi three-part series yet, but we know it began filming in April. The drama will be the first British television adaptation of 'The War Of The Worlds,' and for the first time since the book was published, the story will unfold here in the UK in a small town in Surrey, rather than the now-famous Grover's Mill, New Jersey or other parts of the United States.
The show is written by Peter Harness, who has previously adapted Susanna Clarke's fantasy novel 'Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell' for the Beeb as well as writing four episode of 'Doctor Who' including an episode entitled 'The Pyramid at the End of the World' which is due to air at the end of this month.
Paranormal Movie Releases In 2019
It: Chapter Two
The second-part of the reboot of Stephen King's 'It' comes to cinemas in September. The action resumes 27 years after the events of the first movie. The Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.
Men In Black International
The men in black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, coming to cinemas this summer, they tackle their biggest threat to date... a mole in the men in black organisation.
The ParaPod Movie
'The ParaPod' is a Chortle Awards nominated podcast, hosted by comedians skeptic Ian Boldsworth and Barry Dodds who is a firm believer in the paranormal. Having produce three successful series of the podcast, Barry and Ian are now taking their winning format for supernatural debate to the medium of film.
It's not yet known what the movie will be about, but is likely to follow duo around the country as Barry tries to convince Ray that the paranormal is real at some of the UK's most haunted and mysterious locations.
There's no release date yet and Ian, who is directing the movie, is keep his cards close to his chest in terms of exactly what we can expect from the production, but we're sure to hear more about the movie early in the new year.
The next Stephen King classic to return to screens, 'Pet Sematary' stars Jason Clarke and Amy Seimetz as the parents who bury a beloved pet. The movie is set for release on April 5th.
Meanwhile, online there's plenty to look forward to. After their live Facebook stream with the Really channel over Christmas, the UK Haunted team are set to return in 2019 with more live investigations. Eamonn Vann-Harris, one of the team's investigators has also confirmed that his New World Science team will be touring the UK this year with his array of fascinating devices that are designed to communicate with the dead. More details are expected to be released early in the new year.
In 2019, Haunted Magazine will be celebrating #10YearsOfHauntedMagazine and they have something special planned for autumn time. Although they can't give too much away right now, it will involved a transatlantic collaboration.
Gary Jay of Curiosity is also producing a new film in 2019 and is hoping to re-visit one of the UK's most haunted locations, the site of his most watched investigation to date. This time the filmmaker will be armed with better camera equipment and a bit more experience in the hopes of capturing paranormal activity.
With all this paranormal entertainment being released over the next 12 months, we'll have plenty to celebrate when the Paranormal Entertainment Awards return in late-2019.
