The best ghost hunting shows on television, YouTube, Facebook and Amazon Prime have been revealed after the public voted in the 2020 Paranormal Entertainment Awards.

The silver and gold winners were announced during an online virtual event hosted by Kevin Hughes that was watched by thousands of fans of supernatural entertainment and ghost hunting. In previous years the category has only reflected the best ghost hunting show on television, but for the first time this year winners were split across for subcategories to take into account streaming and on demand platforms.

The winners were selected by the public who voted more than 75,000 times on a shortlist made up of paranormal entertainment that was nominated by the public earlier in the year.

Best Ghost Hunting Series - Television: 'Ghost Adventures'

Ghost Adventures: Horror at Joe Exotic Zoo

Zak Bagans and the 'Ghost Adventures' crew were awarded gold in the television category. The team had a busy year despite the pandemic. They brought fans a quarantine investigation during lockdown at Zak's own haunted museum where he finally opened his infamous Dybbuk Box. They also investigated Tiger King, Joe Exotic's zoo for the show's American Halloween special.

The silver award went to 'Destination Fear', a relatively new series that follows Dakota Laden's travels across America in an RV with his sister Chelsea Laden, and best friend Tanner Wiseman visiting some of the most locations across the country.

Dr. Ciarán O'Keeffe, parapsychologist and fan of ghost hunting shows made an appearance during the online award ceremony to congratulate Dakota and the team.

He said, "I've been a big follower of Dakota from 2008 when he first did his YouTube paranormal series, and then did various parodies which were just excellent. And then back in October 2019 he started with 'Destination Fear' as an attempt to try and understand fear and how we react in the most extreme circumstances. So, big congratulations to Dakota."

Television shows also shortlisted in the Best Ghost Hunting Series category were 'Help! My House Is Haunted', 'Ghost Adventures: Quarantine', 'Ghost Loop', 'Ghost Nation', 'Kindred Spirits' and 'Portals To Hell'.

Best Ghost Hunting Series - YouTube: Paranormal Quest

Paranormal Quest

Paranormal Quest has won the gold after receiving the most votes of the eight shortlisted ghost hunting series to stream on YouTube this year.

The slick and entertaining YouTube series follows Ryan Zacherl, David Gear, Steve Hummel and Jason McKinney on their quest to seek out paranormal activity at reportedly haunted locations across America.

As part of the online awards announcement, the team, who said they were "truly humbled" by fans' support, thanked their audience for voting for them in a video message. They said, "Paranormal Quest has been an amazing adventure, and we can't wait to share more of our paranormal evidence with you and explore more haunted locations."

The silver award in the category went to British YouTubers, the Ouija Brothers. Ste and Griff might not really be brothers, but there's no denying they make very slick, professional and entertaining paranormal videos. This is evident by the speed at which their channel is growing.

Speaking as part of the awards announcement, Ste said, "me and Griff just wanna say a massive massive thank you to everyone that voted for us." He added that it was a "massive honour. We were up against some massive teams on YouTube, so to be included, to be nominated and for the award is pretty incredible."

The Ouija Brothers secured the silver after beating fellow shortlist finalists, Amy's Crypt, CJ Faison, Franko TV, The G Team Paranormal Investigators, The Haunted Side, and Urban Ghost Urban Exploration.

Best Ghost Hunting Series - Facebook: Paranormal Hauntings

Charlene Lowe Kemp - Paranormal Hauntings

Also winning a gold award was Paranormal Hauntings, who were voted the best ghost hunting series to stream on Facebook this year.

Charlene Lowe Kemp was one of the big winners at last year's awards, but alongside Aimee, Chrissie, Dave, and Simon, she hasn't stopped growing and building her fanbase on Facebook in what has been a very difficult year for live streamers.

Upon hearing the news, Charlene said, "I just want to say a massive massive thank you to every single one of you that has voted for us to win. We can't thank you enough."

The silver award in the category went to Scottish Paranormal. Team member, Ryan O'Neill thanked everyone who had not only voted for the team but also nominated them. He explained "it's a great achievement to even be nominated for these awards." He also extended a congratulations to all of the finalists, "well done to everyone as well. Everyone who's been nominated is a winner, so thank you."

Also making the shortlist in this category were Adelaide Haunted Horizons, Fununiform, Ghost Squad, One Entity Paranormal Investigators Worldwide, Penn Paranormal Society and PT Paranormal.

Best Ghost Hunting Series - Amazon Prime: Paranormal Encounters

Paranormal Encounters

Meanwhile, in the Amazon Prime category, the gold went to Paranormal Encounters. The web series follows Connor Biddle - a paranormal enthusiast and India Hopwood - a skeptic with a family history of the supernatural. The couple push their limits of fear to the max in an effort to communicate with the other side.

Speaking in a video message during the awards, Connor thanked fans for their votes. India added, "we really appreciate all of our supporters and viewers, and we've had such a good time filming the show this year that we can't wait to do it again for you next year."

The silver award in the Facebook category went to The Haunted Hunts. The team lead by Danny Moss picked up the title for a second year in a row proving that fans are continuing to love the content the team are producing. Danny said, "we have worked extremely hard this year in incredibly difficult circumstances."

Also nominated were last year's gold winner, Are You Haunted...?, as well as Haunted State, JPR Experience and The Blackwell Ghost.
