"No matter how credible you think your paranormal team is, remember that the majority of the population* just think you're wasting your time on ghost hunts. So drop the egos and just have fun."
Steve Higgins, founder of Higgypop

Originally from the South West of England, Steve has spent much of his professional life to date working out of London, where he was lucky enough to be able to hone his creative and online skills working with some of the biggest brands, companies and organisations in the world.

Like many in the paranormal field, Steve's obsession with ghosts started as a child, fuelled by movies like 'Ghostbusters', 'Poltergeist' and of course the legendary BBC Halloween special, 'Ghost Watch'. Steve launched his website, which at the time was called Higgypop in 1999. He initially blogged about a variety of topics, but the paranormal and unexplained posts soon shined through as the most popular, eventually leading Steve to focus solely on these topics.

Since 2016, Steve has upped his game and has been working full time on the website, bring 500,000+ readers every month daily articles and features on the paranormal, as well as reviews of ghost hunting television shows and supernatural movies. Steve's aim is to make Higgypop the biggest paranormal news site in the world.

Steve says, "I sit very much on the outskirts of the paranormal community. I'm not affiliated with a team and I'm not on a mission to prove the existence of the paranormal. I'm more interested in other people's journeys, stories and experiences."

He adds that belief in the paranormal is no longer as simple as "I believe in ghosts." He explains, "nowadays there are countless belief subsets, there are spiritual investigators - the type who believe they're in contact with guardian angels, there's demonologist, those who are convinced by ghost hunting gadgets, those who can't stand gadgets."

Steve feels that he is well placed to tackle these widespread and opposing views of the paranormal. He says, "as an outsider without my own set of niche subsets of paranormal beliefs, I am perhaps better placed than many to look in, learn about and understand the various different beliefs and elements that make up the paranormal community."

The content creator continues, "my background in corporate training environments has made me well placed to be able able to absorb information and soak up the current trends in paranormal investigation in regards to things like demons, EMF meters and EVPs, and then explain those methods to others in a clear and digestible way."

Steve confesses that one thing that drew him towards certain aspects of the paranormal was his lifelong obsession with flashing lights. Steve admits, "since I was a kid I've always had a fascination with flashing lights, so I think I'm naturally attracted to ghost hunting gadgets. I've studied physics academically, dabbled in electronics and I'm familiar with several computer programming languages, so I'm well placed to be able to understand how these gadgets are supposed to work and identify their flaws. But again, it's not just about debunking these gadgets, I'm also able to understand the best practices for using the devices across the field, including the most common methods and mistakes."

It's this unique perspective and respect for other people's beliefs that Steve feels makes him well suited to writing about the paranormal. He says, "I think all of this means that when I write for Higgypop, I'm not doing so a skeptic or a believer, just as an impartial observer. I can report on and understand legitimate scientific investigations presenting them to my readers in a way that is easy to understand, but I can also review a ghost hunting show on television and respect the individual beliefs of the investigators featured and how their audience might feel towards their methods."

Steve added, "I think the secret is to treat the paranormal with the respect it deserves. Ghost hunting shows might not make up the prime-time schedules of the big four television channels, but for those that watch them they are just as important, as is news of hauntings, ghosts and other strange phenomenon. My readers clearly want to be able to read about these things in an impartial and non-judgemental way."
